KW and our plumbing vendors have been troubleshooting various plumbing challenges. The building has rooftop systems that deliver and regulate water, but individual units also play a role. An important component is the Pressure Regulating Valve. It’s a small valve that quietly protects your unit’s plumbing by keeping water pressure at a safe level. As the PRV is within your unit, its maintenance is your responsibility. In a stacked building, one failed supply line can damage several floors. Replacing an aging PRV is a preventive measure that saves tens of thousands in repairs later. A properly working PRV protects your appliances (dishwasher, washer, fridge) and can reduce nuisance issues like noisy pipes and dripping faucets.
PRVs have a limited life (10-15 years) and the one in your unit is likely 18-20 years old. We strongly recommend replacement rather than waiting for symptoms or a loss event that can affect your unit and others.
